Twelve Colts entered the IESA Sectional Tournament Saturday, March 6, 2010, and, as the dust settled, only six remained. The Colts had heartfelt performances by a tremendous group of sixth graders (Cody Vanderlaan, Merik Kennedy, Andy Bird, Adam Deter, and Parker Zickert), but they all fell short of their goals. It is nice to see the future of Morrison Wrestling growing with young hearts and abilities. Also falling just short of his chance to wrestle at State was Tommy Kohl, who gave his best, but was bested by a score of 8-0 by A. J. Shead of Plano.

The Colts were lead by Tylr Dolan and Jeremy Caruso as they captured Sectional brackets and first place medals. Dolan wrestled like an obsessed individual, looking to accomplished a goal that has eluded him for the last two years. He out-scored his first two opponents 24-0.  Then he solidified his status as champion at the 105 lbs. weight class, as he ended his opponent's day just 1:18 seconds into the match.

Caruso began his day with a sweatless match when his first match lasted 0:16 seconds. Caruso then wasted no time to get into the finals with a quick pin in the semi-finals, pinning his opponent from DeKalb, Clinton Rosette, in just 0:19 seconds. His finals match took a tad bit longer, but Caruso found his way to the top of the podium.  He pinned his opponent, Cyrano Rayfeild, of Ottawa Shepard, at a fall time of 1:28.

The Colts had four other place winners this weekend as well. Phoenix Parks and Phillip O’Shea both finished second. Justin Cronister and Kyle Hodge placed third at their respective weights.

As the week develops look for short bios on the Colts who are State Bound, as well as homecoming details when the boys return from N.I.U. on Saturday, March 13.
