On Friday, February 5, 2010, Chief Brian Melton announced that the Morrison Police Department will conduct another Concentrated Traffic Enforcement Program (CTEP) to focus on traffic safety along Lincolnway (U.S. Route 30.) Officers will be looking for speed and traffic light violations. Chief Melton reminds everyone, “The purpose of the Concentrated Traffic Enforcement Program (CTEP) is not to write tickets. The program’s purpose is to address traffic safety concerns with enforcement practices and bring violations to the attention of those motorists committing such offenses. We simply want to work in partnership with our community to make it stronger and safer.”
The Morrison Police Department selected traffic safety along Lincolnway due to the continuous high volume of traffic. Chief Melton stated, “The busiest portion of Lincolnway in Morrison sees over 10,000 vehicles per day. This high traffic volume, along with the numerous intersections, driveways, and other access points increases the opportunity for motor vehicle crashes and violations. We all see motorists rushing through intersections trying to avoid that red light or trying to get around that vehicle turning into a parking lot. Motorists need to slow down, practice patience, and comply with speed limits and other traffic controls.” Melton concluded, “Our intent is to increase the awareness of motorists to drive safely.”
